Objective
Provide a real time marking capability for integration onto military and commercial handheld mine detectors.

Description The Universal Mine Marker is an add-on to common handheld mine detectors. The low-cost system enhances safety, productivity, and efficiency by providing the operator the ability to mark suspected targets without having to put the detector down or look away from the area of interest. The system comes as a kit that can be installed quickly and directly onto the detector, adding less than 85 g (3 oz.) to the weight of the detector. It does not affect detection sensitivity and does not require any modifications to the detector. The marking system uses a 4:1 water-to-paint mixture contained in a pressurized vessel. The mixture flows from the vessel to a hand-actuated valve that is mounted around the operator's waist. The mixture passes through a vinyl hose attached to the mine detector's shaft and into a flexible hose assembly. The flexible hose assembly allows the capability to adjust the system to a variety of detector heads. The operator depresses the actuator valve to release a small amount of the paint mixture onto the location of the suspected target.

• Paint mixture can clog connectors in high heat and humidity.
• Paint marks do not remain visible on dry/sandy ground.
• Cannot place a mark directly over the target when the detector search head is a closed halo.
